my eyes, our world

1 2 3, GO!!!

Being a non-economic student, I prefer to not to talk about “how and why the price should rise”. Still, as a civilian and citizen of Malaysia, I would like to inquire how the money and profits gained is being used by the government. PETRONAS has made profit upon selling the oil and gas. And the profit gained escalates every year. Our oil is of better quality and caliber, and thus, we should gain more profit when oil’s price rises.

The government hasn’t come with any long-term strategy to counter this price hike, and we are in shortage of oil supply. If the government keeps on increasing the price to meet the demand (with a large difference compared to Brunei etc), how would they act when our oil supply is depleted? Other country has started on alternative energy source, for example; Hydrogen. And Malaysia? None.

And if the government says they can’t afford the subsidiary, does it mean that our economy is declining? Are we in economic crisis? And why? Should we resort to refinement on our economic strategic plan? Should we start implementing the Islamic economic stratagem, first by prohibiting riba’?

I think we should. The government has introduced the concept of Islam Hadhari. Whether it is relevant or not, still it shows that we need to implant Islam in our life, in its true essence, and not as a fabricated scheme.

And the government should discuss this issue (demand and supply) in parliament before increasing the price, and NOT after augmentation.

Protest is a must. How to channel the protest, however, should be considered very carefully. Aggressive action will lead to unwanted retaliation by the government. Emotional and political sentiment too, will not benefit student at all.

Student should convey their message in the appropriate method. For example, utilizing their representative council at their alma mater, picket, written objection et al. It is important for the council to impart this message to the university, ministry and any pertinent authorities. Take Indonesia as exemplary model.

And maybe we could start on requesting the minister to cut 50% off their salary. They can, and they should, shouldn’t they?
